Workshops & Courses
Here is a list of the workshops and courses that I will be running during 2009 – 2010:
15 Week Textiles Course at Barton Peveril College for beginners/intermediate.
Starting Monday 21st September 2009: 7pm – 9.30pm. This course will also be repeated in after the February half term 2010.
£145 – some materials included.
The aim of this practical course is to learn and develop skills and techniques in textiles. In particular we will be looking at the following areas:
Silk paper making
Feltmaking
Shibori and Dyeing
Weaving
Students will also have the option to use the sewing machine, fabric paints, batik and other equipment.
During the course students will work on a chosen theme to guide them in their work.
To book please phone Barton Peveril Adult Learning on 023 8036 7225.
BTEC Award in Textiles – Feltmaking or Creative Machine Embroidery
This course will give students a BTEC Short Course Award in Textiles at either Level 2 or Level 3.
Level 2 students will create a portfolio of samples to show different surface pattern techniques including paint, stitch, felt and print in both 2d and 3d work. Students will choose either Feltmaking or Creative Stitch as their specialism as they build up a body of work throughout the year.
Level 3 students will work with either Creative Stitch or Feltmaking throughout the year whilst building up a research file of contextual influences and references. The combination of historical and contextual information will inform the students practice in either Feltmaking or Creative Stitch. Students will be guided through this unit during workshop time but will also need to work independently on their reference file through research and by visiting exhibitions and galleries.
Both levels can progress onto the BTEC Short course Certificate in Textiles.

I’m from Hong Kong. Just wanted to know if the 15 week Textile Course takes place on every consecutive Monday evenings only? Can I enrol if I’m coming as a visitor or just for local people?
Appreciate your email reply.
Thanks

I really love the tutorial for the felted slipper and would like to know if there is a pattern to follow for slip on slippers; without a back?

Oh, that would be a good one to try. To make the pattern for this slipper you would still need to draw around your feet but instead of extending the sides of the pattern to look like high slippers you could draw the shape of the slipper you want, if you were looking at a side view. I’ll email you a sketch of what I mean…
Or you could just draw round your feet and then cut away the shape from the slipper once it been felted.
